Austin Girl First Texan To Get Medical Cannabis

Austin

AUSTIN — A 6-year-old girl on Thursday became the first person in the Lone Star State who can legally get medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana is consumed by patients across the country and now Texas can join that club with their first patient in the state. The patient is a girl in Central Texas who suffers from intractable epilepsy.

Cansortium Texas, operated under Knox Medical, is credited as the first medical marijuana dispensary in the state to deliver low-THC cannabis to the girl.

The child’s identity is being withheld to protect her privacy.

“For Texans suffering from intractable epilepsy, the wait for medical cannabis is finally over,” Jose Hidalgo, founder and CEO of Knox Medical, told My San Antonio.

“This is a historic day for Texas and we will work tirelessly to uphold the trust and responsibility the state has placed in Knox Medical,” Hidalgo said.
