Maine will become the first state by jurisdiction in America that will not discriminate against employees that use marijuana. This is big news and a great step in the right direction for progress. Maine sets the example of cannabis is regulation can mimic alcohol laws.
The state will not require workers to be tested for marijuana before employment and they will not be discriminated against for off-work marijuana use, Lexology noted. However, employers can still punish employees for arriving to work high or using marijuana at work.
The anti-discrimination provisions of the Act took effect on February 1, 2018.
